Tiny Hands of Hope » History

Everyone at Tiny Hands of Hope understands the journey of grief. We ourselves have experienced it. And we know that not everyone needs us to come alongside them in the same way. That’s why we have worked on several different projects, to help heal and connect in various ways.
In the past we have raised funds for Cuddle Cots, Sibling Charms and Dad Dog Tags, the Bereavement Room at our local hospital, and The Blossoming Garden of Hope.

Blossoming Garden of Hope

When a parent loses a child, no matter their age or gestation, their unimaginable loss is felt throughout the community. Alongside the City of Grande Prairie and Compassionate Friends, we created a positive space for everyone affected by the loss of a child. A place where they can celebrate, honour, and remember the one they miss. A garden that will grow life, hope, healing, comfort… and a sense of community.

The Blossoming Garden of Hope brings together a community to offer hope, comfort, and healing to all who visit. It offers a peaceful environment intended to support families who experience the loss of a child regardless of age or gestation

This garden provides a space for reflection and remembrance in the beauty of nature. Anyone touched by this significant loss such as friends, classmates, medical professionals and first responders is welcome here

The sculptures, artwork, and landscaping within the park were intentionally chosen to be in alignment with the purpose of the garden

2013

  • Tiny Hands of Hope was established as a non-profit in May
  • The Parent Bereavement Fund was created with the help of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation
  • The first Peace Country Walk to Remember took place
  • The first support groups took place
  • The first self care event took place

2014

  • Tiny Hands of Hope purchased a CuddleCot for the QEII Hospital with donations from Swan City Rotary Club & Boubeads
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts their first Wave of Light

2015

  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the first gala to raise funds for a CuddleCot for Peace River Community Health Centre
  • The first pregnancy after loss meeting took place
  • The first rainbow playdates took place
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Wave of Light

2016

  • The collaboration with Compassionate Friends began
  • Work on the “Children’s Memorial Garden” began
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Wave of Light

2017

  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosted a second Annual Gala to raise funds to create the parent bereavement room at the QEII
  • Funds raised by Tiny Hands of Hope were donated to the Grande Prairie Hospital Foundation to build and open the parent bereavement room
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Wave of Light

2018

  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosted the annual gala to raise funds to build the “Children’s Memorial Garden”
  • Monster truck rides and a BBQ took place to raise funds for the “Children’s Memorial Garden”
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Wave of Light

2019

  • Tiny Hands of Hope officially names the annual gala “Illuminate the Night Gala”
  • Tiny Hands of Hope’s Annual Illuminate the Night Gala raised over 30K towards the “Children’s Memorial Garden”
  • Tiny Hands of Hope, Compassionate Friends, and the City of Grande Prairie agree on a conceptual plan for the “Children’s Memorial Garden”
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Wave of Light

2020

  • Designs for the “Children’s Memorial Garden” are finalized by Tiny Hands of Hope, Compassionate Friends, and the City of Grande Prairie
  • Tiny Hands of Hope must put a hold on the Annual Illuminate the Night Gala, due to the pandemic
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts an online auction to raise funds for the “Children’s Memorial Garden”
  • Virtual support groups began
  • Virtual self care groups began
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosted the first Virtual Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the first Virtual Wave of Light

2021

  • Virtual support groups continued

  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosted a reverse bottle drive to raise funds for the “Children’s Memorial Garden”
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosted the second virtual Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the second virtual Wave of Light

2022

  • Tiny Hands of Hope once again hosted the Illuminate the Night Gala, in person, and raises a record-breaking $60K for the “Children’s Memorial Garden”
  • Tiny Hands of Hope and collaborators decide on the official name of the Garden – “Blossoming Garden of Hope”
  • Tiny Hands of Hope and Compassionate Friends host a ground breaking event for the Blossoming Garden of Hope
  • Tiny Hands of Hope and Compassionate Friends are invited to speak at the Tarp Auction for the Grande Prairie stampede
  • Tiny Hands of Hope participated in the KMSC Law Cornhole Tournament raising funds for our mission
  • Tiny Hands of Hope participated in the Northern Mat and Bridge Trap Shoot
  • Tiny Hands of Hope participated in many weekend markets at the Grande Prairie Farmers Market, during the summer
  • Tiny Hands of Hope worked with MNP to create prayer flags and bracelets for the 10th Annual Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosted the in-person 10th Annual Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosts the Wave of Light

  • Tiny Hands of Hope annual Illuminate the Night Gala raises $25K for the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital to purchase a prenatal CMAC Machine
  • Tiny Hands of Hope celebrates 10 years 
  • Tiny Hands of Hope participates in the KMSC Law Cornhole Tournament raising funds for our mission
  • Tiny Hands of Hope met with school representatives about pregnancy and infant loss
  • The City of Grande Prairie, Compassionate Friends, and Tiny Hands of Hope host The Blossoming Garden of Hope Grand Opening and ribbon cutting

  • Renamed our Support Groups “Grief Circles”
  • Monthly grief circles and self care groups continue 
  • Held off in hosting The Annual Illuminate the Night Gala to focus efforts on our grief circles, self cares, and memorial events such as the Bereaved Mother’s Day Brunch and Peace Country Walk to Remember
  • Tiny Hands of Hope hosted a Bereaved Mother’s Day Brunch
  • Tiny Hands of Hope participated in the KMSC Law Cornhole Tournament raising funds for our Mission
  • Tiny Hands of Hope participated in the Wiener Dog Derby with raffle proceeds helping with our mission
